Shohaku Okumura
Sanshin Zen Community is an international Buddhist sangha founded in 1996 by Shohaku Okumura, a Soto Zen priest and respected translator of the thirteenth-century Japanese Zen master, Eihei Dogen Zenji. Based at Sanshin-ji, in Bloomington, Indiana, Sa. More by Sanshin Zen Community. Shohaku Okumura (奥村正博; born June 22, 1948) is a Japanese Soto Zen priest and the founder and guiding teacher of the Sanshin Zen Community located in. Our shikantaza follows three aspects outlined by Kosho Uchiyama Roshi, the teacher of Sanshin's founder, Shohaku Okumura: the study of the meaning of zazen in the context of Buddha's teachings, keeping forms and ceremonies simple in order to maintain their connection with zazen, and undertanding the significance of zazen in modern daily life. Renowned Zen teacher, translator and author Shohaku Okumura makes his first ever visit to the UK with two London events in March 2020. Okumura Roshi will teach on Dogen Zenji’s Shobogenzo fascicles ‘Zenki’ (Total Function) on the Saturday and ‘Shoji’ (Life and Death) on the Sunday. Okumura Roshi: In this line from Shōbōgenzō Busshō, “objective dust” is a translation of the expression kyakujin or kakujin (客塵). Kaku means visiting or visitor; jin is dust.
